In the past few years, more and more questions about adjusting large-layer cake recipes for smaller 6-inch cake cups. 6-inch cakes are very common, and even the smaller size does not match most traditional cake recipes.
But when I made a 6" cake last year, I found a simple solution. Cake recipes I have not adjusted for the smaller size of the cake. I started using my CUPCAKE cake batter instead. (The bulk of my cupcake recipes are adapted from a wider variety of cakes, so the job is done!).
At 350°F (177°C), it takes approximately 18-21 minutes in all 6-inch cake layers.
6-inch cake mix to pan size
A typical cake mix contains around 4 to 6 cups of cake batter. Cake mixes are available in different varieties and are sold at food and supermarkets. Most two-inch deep pastries only need one mixing box.
Round Cake pans
A cake mix box fills two round, 6-inch, or 7-inch cake pots. An 8-inch round cake pot uses about three and a half batter cups, while a 10-inch round pot uses six cups.
Shaped pans
Many specialty pantries can be packed with a cake mix box such as cartoon characters, sports balls, and party hats. For more information, you can visit our website.
What if I haven't got a 6-inch pan?
Some readers have successfully prepared cakes in 8-inch pans if you do not have a 6-inch pan. You can reduce the bakery time by 5 minutes and check the baking time. The cake is a lot thinner.
You should begin the usual baking period if the toothpick has a wet batter on it.

Make a 6-inch cake
Most recipes follow the same steps: Cream butter and sugar together, add egg and any flavors, then gradually add dry ingredients.
Then you move the batter to a 6-inch cake pan lined with parchment paper. This means that after cooling, the cake won't stick.
You bake a 6-inch cake at 350F for around 20-25 minutes, depending on the batter.
The temperature of your oven must be correct. Just because your button says it's 350F does not mean it's 350F.
When I make my 6-inch cake at 375F, it will bake quicker, and so I've got a good chance of overbaking it or even burning it.
I strongly suggest investing in the thermometer oven. It is affordable and will help you keep your cake and don't waste ingredients.
You can also adjust your oven to be more accurate when your temperature is far away. Check your oven manual to see how you can do this.
In the middle, insert a toothpick to know if your cake is made. The cake is ready if it comes out clean. A few crumbs are all right, but you certainly don't want a sticky batter.
